This book is amazingly scary so if you like horror stories than this is perfect for you. I love it so much. It's a perfect scare. Just don't read it at night. A girl named Amy goes to the fears house while her father is in the war. In this story Amy gets controlled by magic cards, sees shadows in the hall, hears terrible stories and rumors, and kills a snake. Read this book! You will be blown away! I know I was! It's awesome! I liked this book much more than a number of other Fear Street books I've reread recently. This book was in tune with what the series should be- we have an evil villain, ghosts, a good guy, and a romantic interest put together in a way that isn't intended merely to shock. The story held my interest despite this no longer being my genre. I was very upset, however, by Stine's complete misinterpretation of tarot. First of all, tarot is neither evil, nor some sort of black magic. The tarot reader sorts the cards in ways they've been taught (not that they magically understand), into patterns representing things. She or he then interprets the cards using the meanings on the cards, the pictures, and their own intuition as guidance. The death card does not actually mean death (which shows that Stine has never even seen a reading done or read a book about it)- it means an end to something. It might be portrayed as a phoenix- something ending means that something new can begin. The worst card in the deck is more likely to be the Tower. You can use your imagination when you write, but at least do a little bit of research. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

'House of Whispers' takes us back to New Orleans during the Civil War to the period after Simon's wedding to Angelica and the birth of their children, but before they move to Shadyside. Amy Pierce, a cousin of Angelica Fear's, must stay with the Fears while her mother tends to her wounded father in Virginia.
This novel is essentially an independent historic romance and has little do with the broader series. The third book of the Saga Trilogy, 'The Burning', tells us how this generation of Fears ends so getting more insight into their characters after the fact isn't helpful or interesting. I suppose this gives us more insight into Angelica, as she was mostly a cypher in 'The Burning'. We, again, have a Civil War-era story with no conversation about slavery and it appears more and more of an accident that led to the Fears being in the slave-holding South to begin with. I guess, they had to be here because they had to learn dark magic from their "servants"? But I'm getting ahead of myself, that's more for the third Sagas book 'Forbidden Secrets'. Putting those talking points aside, we have the story of a young woman in a gothic mansion hearing noises in the night and witnessing terrible events -- will love see her through?
