A story of a young man, Chris Walton, who one day has it all; a new car from his parents, going off to finish his last year of college, excited about life. Then his father's bank crashes during America's Great Depression and Christ finds his family having to sell everything they own. Christ must now find a job and earn a living to help his family survive. He will meet Natalie Halsey, a young lady he went to school with, but never really knew. She will get him a job at the grocer where she works. Between observing Natalie and his parents and the peace and happiness they have despite the bad things that have happened to them, Christ begins his journey in discovering the God who can give peace and joy even in the midst of hard times.

This was a good story centered around a pastor's sermon at the beginning of the book, "It is easy enough to thank God when everything is going well and we have all that we want in our lives. The true test of a thankful heart is to be able to sing praise when things are going all wrong. When we have lost our money or our friends or are disappointed in our dearest ambitions, or when we are in a strange unhappy environment, then we cry out, 'How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?'" A good lesson for us all to learn. ( )
