Twenty-two years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. In the years after, their father, John, taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it.

Sam and Dean are headed for Key West, Florida, home to Hemingway, hurricanes, and a whole lot of demons. The tropical town has so many ghouls on the loose that one of its main moneymakers has long been a series of ghost tours. But the tours are no more, not since one of the guides was found dead of an apparent heart attack...his face frozen in mid-scream. No one knows what horrors he saw, but the Winchester brothers are about to find out.

Soon they'll be face-to-face with the ghosts of the island's most infamous residents, demons with a hidden agenda, and a mysterious ancient power looking for revenge. It's up to Sam and Dean to save the citizens of Key West...before the beautiful island is reduced to nothing more than a pile of bones.

I enjoy these books almost as much as I enjoy the tv series. It's interesting to imagine the characters exactly as they are portrayed opposed to your own ideas about a character. Story was filled with typical demons; smart-ass remarks. Easy fun read.

This was a fun read.
The story fits partway into season three. If you haven't watched the TV series yet, or have only just started, wait to read this until you've got through the first two full seasons, or you'll come across some major spoilers.
The book is entertaining and carries the same feel as the TV series. There are a few parts where the writing is a bit patchy but the overall reading experience is pretty fun. I'm not sure that someone who hasn't watched the TV show would engage all that well with it, but that's not the intended audience. ( )

- Not nearly as bad as Nevermore
- The ending was pretty bad
- 10 pages of the backstories of ghosts that had nothing to do with the story
- Why did he feel the need to add a gang rape?
- Hemmingway bits were forced and contributed **Nothing** to the plot.

## Stray Observations

- I don't think DeCandido understands:
- The Winchester brothers dynamics
- How Supernatural episodes work

3.5 out of 5 stars.

People who want to read this book should be familiar with the television show - Supernatural. Otherwise, you might be disconnected or lost.

This book takes place just after A Very Supernatural Christmas (third season) - around New Years.

Quick Review:
I read the prior 2 books in this series. This one was written by the first book's author. I noticed that the author cut back on the amount of street names and song titles in this book - which was an annoying trait to the first book. However, the eye color was still described wrong - even when the author made fun of his own mistake in Bone Key.

The story was interesting, and Florida was a nice change of pace even if it was the middle of winter. The story incorporated some references to a few television episodes as well as some things from the prior two books. If you wanted, you could read this book without reading the other two. I imagined you would be able to do that with most of the books.

Again, a note of warning for fans of the show: Read these books for entertainment purposes only - like fan fiction. You'll find some discrepancies between things in the book and what happened in the show. ( )
