Keen observations made by a well-read philosopher who makes her own way and certainly changed mine. Inexplicably to me, she believes that "the artist" seeks to portray the "nature of feelings", but not necessarily to communicate or share the actual feelings. Music, for example, is not an expression of the emotion the composer felt. (Have you ever felt like Wagner? Yankee Doodle?) Rather, the composition is a semblance, or an isomorph, of the feeling the music shows. Thus we are taught, by the abstract likeness, about what the feeling is like.
