When people say, "don't do an MFA program, they just churn out people who all sound the same," this book is what they mean. There's nothing wrong with it, exactly, it just reads like the author had a "how to write well" checklist in front of her while she was writing. No adverbs? check. Open with an exciting event, even if it has nothing to do with the rest of the book? check. No dialogue tags, even if it makes all your characters sound bizarrely affectless? check. ( )

The family relationships that happened after one guy survives a WWII plane crash and his friend dies. I liked the beginning much better than the end - it got a little tedious and I ended up skimming it. ( )
