Rajkumar un giovane indiano giunto a Mandalay su una nave sampan, assiste all'assalto del palazzo reale, simbolo di un potere monarchico che la popolazione intende rovesciare. Le pareti di questo magnifico edificio erano interamente ricoperte di frammenti di vetro, per rispecchiare all'infinito l'immagine del sovrano. Ma al re birmano tra breve succederanno gli inglesi.
