A very cute and humorous story told in the perspective of a child on things dads can't do. When I first picked up this book, I thought it would be more negative, so the sweet ending was a bit of a surprise to me. This would be a great book for children to read with their fathers. ( )

" What Dads Can't Do" is a sweet story, told from a child's perspective, of all the helpful things that fathers do. He explains all the things that his dad "can't" do, when really it shows us as an adult all the sweet gestures fathers do for their children. This a great story for young ones because many children probably view their fathers in the same way. It has little creatures illustrated in this book, not sure what they are, but kids will enjoy it and use their imagination. I believe this is a great story for little ones and their fathers to share together. ( )

Slightly more appealing than the companion book about moms. For some reason I can live with the unattractive dinosaur when it's a dad better. Still I think other kinds of illustrations would have worked better for me. This seems like the quality & value of a supermarket pb, not a full-on hardcover picture book. Clever to read once or twice but not a treasure.

I've realized now what bothers me the most is that the Mom was doing almost entirely dutiful things with the child. Grocery shopping, gardening, making beds, etc. The dad gets to play ball, go camping, eat cake and ice cream, etc. That makes the Dad book more of joy to read. Still, I'm giving them each only 3 stars. ( )

I enjoyed this story for a variety of reasons. The illustrations in this book grabbed the reader’s attention and drew them into the story. The illustrations included details which helped to showcase the emotions of each character therefore enhancing the reader’s understanding of the events taking place in the story. In addition, the illustrations added an element of humor to the book which could not be found from reading the text alone. I also liked how the author used repetition to create a distinct rhythm throughout the story. This use of repetition gave an element of predictability to the text and made it easy to follow along with the events of the story. For example every page included the phrase “dads can’t” followed by something the little dinosaurs dad could not do. The message of this story is that people will make sacrifices for the ones they love. Throughout the book the dad makes little sacrifices for his son because he loves him and likes to see him happy. For example, the little dinosaur narrating the story says his dad isn’t good at hide and go seek, board games, or baseball but in reality the dad is letting his son win at everything to make him happy. I thought this book was very cute and can be related to some kids who only have one parent, preferably a dad. I teaches kids to appreciate their parent and builds more love for them. ( )
