Jabbour is an Arab Christian who wrote the book The Crescent Through the Eyes of the Cross in which he is writing about how Christian can understand the Muslims. It goes “beyond mere tolerance to a passion for Muslims. This book explains how that can be done in ways that are sensitive to Islamic culture and provides suggestions on how to build vital relationships with Muslims.” This book can be found on the library shelves under the number 261.27/JAB. A Christian man from a Christian home who grew up in a Muslim world, a Christian missionary from a conservative Christian ministry; these two qualities alone should invite you to listen carefully to what Dr. Jabbour has to say about Muslims. One thing Dr. Jabbour helps us do is see things from the Muslims point of view, in order that we might understand how the Muslim man and woman thinks. Dr. Jabbour's book will challenge your thinking on many things and will lead you to consider things you haven't thought about before. In addition, you will also find his insights extremely valuable. This book will be helpful to anyone wanting to understand why both mainstream Muslims and Muslim terrorist think the way they do, and will be extremely valuable to those wanting to understand their Muslim co-workers and/or friends. For those who are interested in sharing their Christian faith with Muslims, this book is imperative. NCLA Review -Dr. Jabbour, an Arab Christian, was born in Syria, grew up in Lebanon and lived with his family in Egypt for 15 years. He has a doctorate degree in Islamics and has a deep understanding of the Islamic culture and world view. He introduces the reader to characters that are amalgams of Muslims he has known over the years. Through them we see how Muslims view the western world and its culture. There is much practical advice to encourage greater understanding between Muslims and Christians. Most importantly there is a call for respect of the Muslim culture and customs. Christians are encouraged to approach Muslims with love and remember that they are our neighbors too. Dr. Jabbour doesn’t ignore uncomfortable issues such as suicide bombings, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or terrorism that have impacted the relationship between Islam and Christianity. This non-prejudiced book about Islam is a must read for anyone wanting to better understand the Arab world.
