"Workers" is een fotoboek vol met zwart-witfoto's van mensen die zwaar lichamelijk werk doen van de Braziliaanse econoom en fotograaf Sebastião Salgado. Zoals gebruikelijk bij dit soort fotoboeken zijn niet alle foto's even mooi of indrukwekkend. Ik zou zelf zeggen dat zo'n 90 % van de foto's in dit boek vrij gewoontjes zijn, maar tussen de overige 10 % zitten dan ook een aantal pareltjes. Ik zou een aantal topfoto's willen noemen:

Salgado heeft foto's gemaakt in een groot aantal verschillende landen. Wat opvalt is dat de beste foto's in het boek niet altijd direct iets te maken hebben met het productieproces. Voordat Salgado dit boek publiceerde had hij een boek over de Sahel gepubliceerd. Later zijn een boek over Afrika verschenen en een boek met de titel "Genesis". Salgado heeft een aantal jaren voor Magnum gewerkt, maar heeft later dit agentschap weer verlaten.
