This is a novella-length just for audio story produced by the BBC. I got it as part of a box set on Audible. The set, Torchwood Tales, contains ten of these shorter stories, which makes it a good value for one of my credits. You can also buy the stories individually, but why would you want to?

So, as for this tale, it was fantastic. Torchwood, being a bit darker and more adult than Doctor Who, does creepy stories really well. This one definitely has the creep factor. Burn Gorman is an excellent narrator, and he manages a fairly wide range of accents and voices (not perfectly, but well enough). I’d definitely recommend the set, and this story in particular. ( )

This was really, really good. I wish this had been an episode! The plot was very captivating; I was genuinely curious about what was causing the populace to go bonkers. I was actually surprised that Jack's 51st Century genetics didn't leave him completely immune. I loved the characterizations of the team; they were spot-on. Jack was great (as always), and I really enjoyed Owen in this. I have no idea if it was because Burn Gorman was the narrator, or if he (Owen) was having one of those rare days where he wasn't a complete prat. Owen could grate on the nerves in some episodes, and made you love him in others. I think that was the charm of his character; you both loved and hated him. Gwen wasn't annoying in this either, which (in my opinion) was the case in many, many episodes. She was helpful, yet worried without being high-and-mighty or whiny. This was a very enjoyable book and I think any fan of Torchwood would enjoy it. ( )

The neatest bit is the title - all over Cardiff, people start to greet each other and to confess all kinds of mostly boring yet intimate details about their lives. Of course, it turns into an alien invasion of the week story, competently enough done, and decently read by Burn Gorman whose Owen gets a fair amount of viewpoint character time. But not quite as zestful as some of the other Torchwood writing. ( )

The first sign of something being out of place is the number of people stopping whatever they are doing and starting to talk very earnestly and openly to anyone who will listen. The team discovers that there is an alien communications field over the city and it is hostile. Jack, Gwen and Owen go out to find it while Toshiko and Ianto try to work out a solution in the hub.

An OK story read by Burn Gorman. ( )

Everyone Says Hello is a pretty good Torchwood story with an interesting presentation.

Burn Gorman does a good job bringing most of the characters to life; the exception being Captain Jack Harkness, who proved beyond Gorman; I'm not sure if it was just the accent, or something else. But he did a pretty good job bringing Dan Abnett's story to life otherwise.

This isn't Abnett's first Torchwood story, and he proved here again that he has a good grasp of the show's characters. The story fell victim to the same tendency towards the grandiose that some of the more recent Torchwood stories on-screen have, but as long as the story is well-executed that's not a problem. And I certainly think that the story was well-executed.

While a new Torchwood novel would've been my preference over a new audiobook, I still enjoyed Everyone Says Hello. And that's good enough for me. ( )
