I really enjoyed reading this book with my niece, she is three years old. As we read there was a clear use of simplistic language for a young reader and wonderful illustrations that added an element of interest to the story. A short but sweet story about Angelina getting hiccups the day of her recital. She tries every way possible to get rid of her hiccups but nothing works. Until her little brother scares her right before she has to go on stage for the recital, her hiccups were finally gone. The book is a leveled text with simple language that is on reading level for a 2nd grade student. Using few high frequency words and short sentences creates a story that can be read independently by emergent readers. The illustrations can also be an aid in the understanding of the story while also giving more information about the story not displayed through the text. It was interesting to see how engaged my niece was when reading a simple story about hiccups, she laughed the entire was through the book and pretended to have hiccups when we finished the book.
