Sometimes things happen in a person’s life that could change it so much that it might not feel like their life anymore. That’s exactly what happened to Amy Michelle Donovan (A.K.A.) Brooke Eastman in the book entitled Twice Taken.
This book is about and 16 year old Brooke Eastman who’s lived with her father since she was five years old, when her father said her mother was dead. When she was about 13 years old her father then confessed that her mother, Mrs. Girard, was not dead but beat her as a child, which wasn’t true either. One night, Brooke gets stuck baby-sitting her Father’s date’s kids from hell. When she finally gets the kids to a quiet state, she decides to watch T.V. She turns to a show called “Still Missing” and it was talking about a young girl named Amy Donovan. After a few minutes of watching the show, she recognizes her father. She decides to call the 800 number on the screen and is immediately directed to the police department. After a lot of questions and conversations with her real mother, Brooke is confirmed to be Amy. Her father is informed and he, Amy, and Mr. and Mrs. Girard are appointed to family court where Amy is placed with her mother with no contact with her father until she’s 18.
At that point, “Brooke” feels like her life is being ruined right in front of her. A new school, new family, and a new experience are her new life. She is convinced to hate her mother and new family and waits to be reunited with her dad. At school she meets a few friends and is asked to join their group. She does and realizes she has no right to hate her mother but only to be mad at her father. ( )
