Anna and the Duke packs tons of drama into a quick-paced, cute romance. This isn’t a groundbreaking story by any means, but the main characters are highly likeable and the villains are a delight to despise. The plot itself is full of twists and turns, and there’s tons of drama. There were some unexpected things that I really enjoyed; Ewan’s stepmother is welcoming and loving towards him despite the fact that he is a child of her late husband’s previous marriage. This was nice, because it would have been so easy to despise Ewan’s father’s second family, but his stepmother and half-sister were way too loveable to do that.

There were a couple of moments where I felt like the conflict was frustrating because it came about from simple lack of communication, and there would have been far more interesting ways for the plot to develop, but other than those small moments, I was overall intrigued. I love how the revelations about various characters came in small amounts so that I kept getting surprised as I read along.

This is a sweet romance with lots of intrigue and thriller elements to keep it interesting. If you can find yourself a copy of this and want some light reading, this is definitely the perfect book to do that with.

Eighteen-year-old Anna Welsley should be happy, or at least content. Her position is to secure. She's to inherit a fortune from her father's business, and is engaged to Richard Fitzgerald, the son of a duke. But instead, Anna finds herself dissatisfied, wondering if she even feels anything for Richard. When Lord Fitzgerald dies, Richard expects he will inherit his father's title of Duke of Brahm. But on his deathbed, Richard's father revealed that he had been married before, and that his true heir was Ewan McLaughlin, who had been raised in his mother's homeland, Scotland. Bitter against the father who abandoned him, Ewan reluctantly accepts his inheritance. But Richard, who always thought he would be Duke upon his father's death, is bitter and angry towards his newly discovered half-brother. Anna begins to suspect that Richard is angry enough to plot against Ewan. She decides she must warn Ewan, even if it means betraying Richard, but never expects to fall in love with him. Can Anna and Ewan ever be together, or will Richard take out his vengeance on them both?

I highly recommend this sweet love story, set in England in 1818, to teenage girls who enjoy historical romances. It's a really romantic and charming story, and I truly enjoyed the characters. ( )

A historical romance set in England and Scotland. Anna is betrothed to Richard. What will happen when Ewan, Richard's long lost brother arrives from Scotland. Will Ewan take more than Richard's inheritance and title?
