Great photos, of course, and concise introductions to the sights. ( ) This slim, beautiful travel guide explores Washington DC by dividing the central area (i.e. government, historical and cultural sites) into 7 neighborhoods, plus a section on outlying areas and a section on day trips outside DC. Each section includes an overview of the history and ambience of the neighborhood, a detailed map, then information about a few truly must-see locations/activities and 10-12 other points of great interest. The book’s design and style is trademark DK Eyewitness -- with hundreds of color images, maps and a few building cross-sections -- except the pages are now of matte paper instead of glossy. It has an excellent tear-out map, laminated and folded and very legibly labeled with neighborhoods, streets, sites and MetroRail lines. Note that word earlier, “explore” -- this is a guide that will get you out and about, especially since more than half of the sections map out “A Short Walk” of 1.5-2 miles, focused on a theme of the area. Note also that it includes just a few recommendations for lodging, dining or entertainment (when it does, it’s for sites that are destinations in themselves). It’s an inspiring, lively guide for anyone planning leisure time in DC. (Review based on a copy of the 2019 edition provided by the publisher.) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
