“Red Fox” could be used to accompany a lesson on animal habitats, ecosystems, and the affects that humans can have on wildlife. Students could discuss times when they have seen wild animals in town and why do they think they were there. In this story Red Fox is described as desperately needing food for his family, would it be easy to find food in towns and cities? Is this natural for wild animals? What are some of the dangers or problems associated with wild animals entering towns?

Students can also make predictions as to why Rose is not joining Red Fox to hunt for food. In the beginning of the story she is described as tired and hunger. She is drawn to look larger than Red Fox.

The illustrations are very elementary. The characters lack detail in their expressions, but they are drawn so readers can understand the feelings that are portrayed. For example, there is a scene where Red Fox is angry because all he can find are crickets and grasshoppers. The way his eyebrows are drawn allows the reader to see that his angry, not just read it in the text. ( )

This a story about a fox in search for food for him and his partner. He searches all over and finds food in the far away town. When he return to their gave his partner has had five baby fox. I would read this book to K-2nd. Could use this book to talk about how animals live.
