Mostly pretty middle of the road for me. I liked the couple alright. There were some better parts here and there.

Side note, the heroine does something just ridiculously dumb in the first chapter or so, and I think it was supposed to be something quickly dismissed, but it rubbed at me for a long, long while. lol. She's been sleeping with a man who's been giving her gifts, but he takes her to a houseparty and ends up revealing himself to be a horrible person and refuses to even let her leave. She finally is allowed to go, and her rescuer tells her to gather her things and she just refuses. She doesn't want anything that came from that previous man apparently. The hero even makes the point that whatever the cad gave her she's certainly earned it by this point, and still(!) she walks out of the house with just the clothes on her back! She's leaving even her own clothes and things!? And she is not at all well off where she can just buy all new when she gets home and it's only a minor inconvenience or something. She's fallen on hard times, she's already sold off most of her furniture and things! What the Hell is she doing walking away from a decent chunk of her remaining (probably her nicest, since it was a house party) possessions? She doesn't even have money or an extra item to sell to pay for the stagecoach home or anything!? So she went from being at the total mercy of one man, burned terribly by it, and then straight into being at the total mercy of another, only this one is a complete stranger as well. It's just staggeringly stupid to me. And she wasn't even sneaking out in the dead of night or something (even then definitely pocket the jewelry to sell at least!) so there's nothing but some sort of misplaced pride or impatience or something to stop her from taking every single item. AND not only is she walking away *much* worse off for all her many troubles, she leaves it behind for that horrible man to profit from! Grrr. I'm sure he was just delighted to get all his gifts back, plus whatever else she brought with her. *facepalm* It's never mentioned again, so I'm sure the author just meant it to be a small aside or something, but the absolute reckless stupidity of it galls me. *pulls hair out* lol. ( )

Roselyn Longworth gave up her dignity when she became the mistress of her brother's creditor. She was saved and brought back to society's graces by again one of her brother's creditors.I read the book, but was disappointed. I was enticed by the books description and I felt in the beginning, the story line was developing. Towards the middle of the book, I just wanted it to end. ( )

Que bela surpresa me saiu esta compra. Nunca tinha lido coisa alguma da autora, e confesso que comprei este livro porque estava na posição nº4 de um Top de vendas, dado que já tinha os que figuravam nos três primeiros lugares, deixei-me levar pelo público. E ainda bem que o fiz.
Como em todas as estreias na vida, primeiro estranhei - estou tão habituada à fantasia e aos clássicos que outro estilo de escrita e seu conteúdo, me espantam sempre - depois entranhei.
Totalmente desprovido de bláblá disparatado ou qualquer outra forma dispensável de rodeios para gastar papel e exasperar o leitor - ou na gíria comum "encher chouriços" - Jogos de Sedução (já agora que título terrível...se não tivesse lido a sinopse provavelmente teria optado pelo nº5 do Top...no original é Secrets of Surrender, custava assim tanto traduzir à letra e chamar-lhe Segredos de Rendição ou coisa do género?Não é que soe muito melhor mas...) conta-nos a sua história de uma maneira rápida e eficaz sobrando muito tempo e espaço para as noites de Kyle e Roselyn. Sim, o livro possui uma forte vertente sexual. Não, não é ordinário ou obsceno. Muito pelo contrário.
Acontece que, as personagens principais deste livro vão-se conhecendo, entendendo, habituando, confiando um no outro, ao longo das sucessivas noites de paixão que vão partilhar no seu casamento precoce. Noites tanto eróticas como doces. Há também uma história, uma história bem construída que de uma maneira ou de outra vai interligar todas as personagens que nos são dadas a conhecer para além dos protagonistas. Queremos saber o desfecho dela, porque a felicidade dos pombos depende disso.

After reading The Rules of Seduction, and really liking it, I was looking forward to Rose's story. Rose is the cousin of Alexia, the heroine of TROS. After Rose's brother squandered all of the family's money, and stole from the accounts of many others, her family suffered ruin. Her brother fled, leaving Rose and her younger sister, Irene, to fend for themselves. Luckily, they had the help of Alexia, who offered financial support to her cousins.

Rose, for whatever reason, naively takes up with a man, Norbury. Unknown to her Norbury is one of the people who's account her brother had stolen money from. Though Norbury had been made whole he can not resist a chance at exploiting the sister of the thief. He uses her and when he's had his fill, he decides to sell her off to the highest bidder.

Kyle has seen Rose before and was captivated by her beauty. Being that Rose's station was far above his, he could never act on that attraction, regardless of her lack of financial wealth. Not able to watch Rose get sold off to a harsh fate, Kyle steps in and saves her. He is successful in getting her away from Norbury but Rose knows that there is nothing to be done about her now ruined reputation. That is until Kyle proposes a marriage of convenience.

I really struggled with this book, not because the writing wasn't good (it was), but because I was unable to connect with the characters. I read about their feelings, suffering, and love, but never felt it. I've read a few Hunter books and this is the first one where the heroine and hero, came off dry. The beginning of their story was promising but as it progressed it seemed that the characters were simply going through the motions, which bored me. I became disconnected with the characters, and sometimes with the story as a whole.

Something else that I'm not exactly sure if I liked is that there was never any "I love you" exchanges. Despite the lack of oomph between the two, Rose and Kyle's relationship progressed naturally enough that I knew that they loved each other. Still, to never actually have them say it... I don't know. Maybe I'm old fashioned and like to have those words exchanged.

I was also bothered by the bit of information that Norbury shared with Kyle through a letter. It was a BIG revelation/accusation but it never received any other mention. Something of that magnitude, I think, deserved further exploration. That it never got it was disappointing.

Rose and Kyle were strong enough characters to have a great story. Sadly, I felt that the potential they had was never realized ( )
