A hilarious critical essay on the present state of social science (actually its state in the 1970s, but I don't think anything has changed for the better since then). The attack is aimed especially on broad theories such as "structuralism" and "functionalism". Their proponents happily equate theory with truth, but fill it only with self-evident factoids stated in intentionally confusing language. This should be mandatory reading for all beginners in sociology. I do think the argument would have been stronger if the author had clearly stated what kinds of social theory actually can be valid and useful. This is a critical book but it is not constructive. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
