Pt. 1 (pp. 11-42) contains a short history of the Theresienstadt ghetto, and describes Jewish self-administration, living conditions, and cultural activities. Ch. 2 (pp. 45-336) contains a daily chronicle of the ghetto based on records from diaries by the inmates Egon Redlich, Philipp Manes, Ružena Weinbergerová, Arnošt Klein, Hana Platovská, and Willi Mahler. Pt. 3 (pp. 339-356) describes events after the last deportation from Theresienstadt in October 1944, including the liberation and repatriation, as reflected in memoirs by Elsa Bernstein, a diary by Erna Popper, and an essay written by the former Red Army doctor Yevgeniya Fizdel, who took part in the liberation of the ghetto. Pt. 4 (pp. 359-388) contain excerpts from diaries by the artists Vera Segerová, who died in 1943; Maria Klanová (Kleinová) who survived; and Hana Anderová (Steindlerová), as well as excerpts from Makarová's interview with Anderová. Includes photographs and drawings.
Of 15,000 children deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto, no more than 1,000 survived. Pt. 1 (pp. 11-86) describes the children's living conditions and includes excerpts from diaries. Pt. 2 (pp. 87-246) contains translations from the hand-written magazines "Vedem", "Kamarad", "Rim Rim Rim", and "Bonaco", which were published in Theresienstadt. Pt. 3 (pp. 247-260) contains poetry written by children in the ghetto. Pt. 4 (pp. 261-344) deals with the artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeisova, who perished in Auschwitz in 1944. In Theresienstadt Dicker-Brandeisova was a drawing teacher in the ghetto orphanage. Presents art works by her and by some of her young students. Pt. 5 (pp. 345-362) deals with a children's theater in the ghetto headed by Walter Freud. Pt. 6 (pp. 363-411) contains personal stories (wartime and postwar) of some children survivors of Theresienstadt and of the "family camp" in Birkenau. Includes numerous photographs, as well as drawings and other art works by Theresienstadt inmates.
Pp. 363-453 contain a list of all the lecturers, short biographies, and lists of the lectures each of them held in Theresienstadt.
