You make me laugh with your simple ignorance of the greatest and most powerful man in the world. Yes, I will know who Napoleon is! I have seen him, that I have spoken to him, that I have served him, that I have here on my right arm the mark of the horseshoes of his horse, when ... It was in battle of Austerlitz: he was climbing the Pratzen hill at full speed, after having ordered the ice of the swamps to be destroyed with cannon shots where more than four thousand Russians were drowned. I, who was in the 17th line, Vandamme Division, was lying on the ground with a serious head injury. I really thought my last hour had come. Well, as I say, when he passed by with his entire General Staff and the infantry of the Guard, the legs of his horse bruised my arm in such terms that it still hurts. However, so great was our enthusiasm on that famous day that, getting up as best I could, I shouted: "Long live the Emperor!" Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
