Toby has finally started to accept her persona as cheerleader in order to remain part of the Squad, but Homecoming is closing in and she has been named to the court. Winning the crown of Homecoming Queen would be even more horrifying than not catching the terrorist who is planning to release a new biological weapon that has turned up in Bayport. While she and her team dig in to investigate, Toby's brother Noah, stages an active and creative campaign to get Toby elected as Homecoming Queen, including masquerading as a pirate in the cafeteria and steaking through the school in his underwear with Toby's name painted across his chest. If this isn't embarrassing enough, Jack, Toby's sort-of boyfriend has started creating scenes in the hallway which always end with him kissing her.
Killer Spirit, the sequel to Perfect Cover continues this unbelievable story of a group of high school cheerleaders who have been trained to be covert operatives for the government. The story is outlandish and the dialogue is over the top, but none of that takes away from the fun of the characters as they navigate the worlds of espionage and high school. Overall, a light story that is enjoyable to read. ( )

I love the quick, simple, yet engaging read that this series is. It's perfect after I've had a stressful day and just need to unwind. ( )

I remembered it being more fun than this, but maybe I was just more willing to embrace the ridiculous the last time I read this book.

Most of it really is ridiculous, from the characters to the plots to the technology (gene-rewriting nanobots? Seriously?). Parts of it are pretty funny, and it's still an amusing distraction, but nothing more.

Though I have to admit, I wish there was another Squad book, because there are so many unanswered questions. I want a big conclusion, a big finale, to end it all with a bang. But... there's not one. ( )

Definitely entertaining for sixth-eighth grade girls, but not original enough to be truly a standout. This second book in the "Squad" series sees Toby running for homecoming queen while trying to stop potential terrorists. The ending was a little too far-fetched for my taste, and I found this to be a let down. An easy and light read that will keep reluctant readers engaged. ( )

Toby's wit and sarcasm does not disappoint. Although the ending seemed slightly over the top, a great sequel to a wonderful book. This book had me cracking up. ( )
