Learn about the early life of Abraham Lincoln in this picture book biography that Kirkus Reviews calls "a moving tribute to the power of books and words." In a tiny log cabin a boy listened with delight to the storytelling of his ma and pa. He traced letters in sand, snow, and dust. He borrowed books and walked miles to bring them back. A great biography about Lincoln and his life. I loved learning that he is from a small town, and how much he loved learning and reading! He only had three years of official school education, and taught himself to be a lawyer. I learned a lot about his life, and it gave me more appreciation for this man. A great book! ( )

This book was very "out of sorts" for me. Although I could understand words (obviously), I REALLY disliked the way that the stanzas (??? I guess that's what they were) were organized and the way that everything sort of seemed like a giant run-on sentence. I understand the story of Abe, so I know what the author intended, but I think this could be confusing for kids and that there are probably better biographies out there. I did like how they centered it around Abe's growing love for books and education, though. ( )

Almost everyone knows about "Honest Abe", but not many people know how he became the man that was our president. This biography details Abraham Lincoln's life and how he came to have the world view he did. He did not have an easy life and lost his mother at a young age. He valued knowledge and loved to read. Eventually, he traveled the country and saw injustice he could not stand for. So, he became a lawyer and eventually The President of the United States, ending slavery. ( )
