Tracks seemingly unrelated deaths to a cult in North Carolina. In books I usually search a way out. Not "where", but "how". And usually when it's there - it's fake, like painkillers, at least it work for some time. But there is always a books where is no movement, or worse - they go a way deeper in. That is one of the later - character too deep, story too shallow. I will put whole series away for some time. For all its goods it seems that character of Temperance Brennan simply won't going well with my current life problems. I love this series. As much as I love the TV show Bones, the books are entirely different -- and I appreciate them both for various reasons. Tempe is much more socially adept in the books, with an extended circle of family and friends. But it's her forensic anthropologist skills that really shine in both mediums. This book hooked me from page one. I loved seeing Tempe in her element, and I particularly appreciated the Montreal setting. I remember the ice storm mentioned in this novel, and it brought back some memories I'd thought long buried. While I found Reichs' insistence on sharing every bit of her research with us (especially around the monkeys!) a little dull, I appreciated her precision and the vivid word pictures she painted. The plot kept me guessing until the end, and I enjoyed turning the last page feeling satisfied. No cliff ender here! I'm looking forward to the next instalment. I love Kathy Reichs and this book made me love her even more! The second novel in the Temperance Brennan series followed a sort of cult or Amish-like group. With numerous girls disappearing, Tempe must solve the murders and find the killers! This book did not disappoint me at all! It had lots of action, twists and turns I didn't see coming, mystery, romance and a wild adventure. Seeing more of Agent Andrew Ryan made me very happy, and even seeing the cat Birdie make more of an appearance made my heart grow. There isn't anything I would ask Kathy Reichs for. I could pick this book apart for how frustrated I was when I didn't see the twists coming, but that means she did a spectacular job. I'm lucky I have the next novel on hand because I am addicted to this woman's work! Five out of five stars. Amazing crime/mystery/action novel with lots of suspense and mystery, but at the same time the ending ties up all loose ends. Forensic perfection in one novel!
