This is a lovely book highlighting some of children's illustrators well known works. I very much like the style of the book which highlights the artists with a description of how they create their works, then a folded flip page of their self portrait. Well written and endearing.

Highly recommended for those, like me who enjoy children's illustrated books.

This provides a nice overview of popular children's books illustrators. I already knew some of them, of course, but I learned about a few more that I'm looking forward to checking out. Most importantly, though, I learned that there is an Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA, which I will definitely add to my to-do list for my wishful vacation to New England this year. Didn't suit me, as I'm not creatively inclined or a child. ?To me, it felt more like a way for minor artists to get their name out. ?áMany of these I've never heard of, and their works aren't in my library. ?áI was hoping it would be more about 'how to see pictures' or 'how to appreciate the art style of ppl like Quentin Blake that others like but I don't yet' re' the quest I'm on for such guidance....

For you, it might be wonderful.

I originally read this book to learn about Leo Lionni art, but there was a lot of other interesting artists in here as well. They are all very talented, and this book is very informative. ( )

This unique anthology shares the personal stories, inspirations, and motivations of twenty-three artists whose illustrations grace the pages of the most admired children’s picture books. Written as informal letters addressed to children, each illustrator shares insight into their creative minds along with how they began their journey as artists. Foldout pages withhold photographs of their youth, artwork from their childhood, familiar pictures as works-in-progress, and snapshots of their studios or workspaces. In addition, each letter is complete with a self-portrait, portraying how the artist sees themselves through their own art. While written to a young audience, anyone who appreciates art will find this read with a glimpse into the life and mind of renowned artists to be engaging. Rather than an instructional “how to” book, Artist to Artist holds encouraging messages worthwhile to share with budding young artists. ( )
