A decorated WWII flying ace and Royal Air Force Group Captain recounts his experience in the air over Europe in this thrilling military memoir. New Zealand fighter pilot Desmond Scott joined the Royal Air Force in 1940. Over the course of his illustrious service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar, and a Distinguished Service Order. For the heroic act of rescuing a pilot from a crashed Supermarine Spitfire, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. In Typhoon Pilot, Scott recounts his time as a young commander of a New Zealand Air Force squadron, and later as the RAF's youngest Group Captain at the age of 25. Perfectly good little account of the life of a pilot, and specifically a Typhoon pilot during the war. Definitely worth a read if you're into this genre. (

A decent book although paled into comparison compared to Mike Crosley's 'They gave me a Seafire'. The latter was comprehensive discussing naval tactics, detailed aircraft specs and characteriswtics and so on. This book just covers the campaigns he was involved in. However, given that it was a decent book and a welcome one for me as the first I'd read about flying the deservedl;y maligned Typhoon. Arguably the best low-level attack aircraft of WWII that unfortunately killed as many of its own as the Germans!

But a decent book about the aircraft and the major campaigns from 1943 to VE Day. (

A thoughtful, matter of fact biography. A nice mix of the lighthearted, and the deadly seriousness of war. (
