Purchased almost twenty years ago for its fascinating approach to the vampire legend and gorgeous photography. If you love vampires, this is a worthy book to add to your collection, provided you can find it. ( ) Collection of vampire folklore, myths and legends from a variety of world cultures, along with some interesting historical papers purporting to document encounters with the real thing. Lots of photographs, drawings and other artwork. The particular conceit of this book is that all information is presented as if it were true, and that the book itself serves as a "Peterson's guide" to the vampire, with tips on cultivating relationships with vampires as well as providing the "facts" necessary to foil them: how to identify, elude, and avoid, as well as how to kill. Fun, and beautifully illustrated. This book isn't inspired, or original. And that's alright. Those thick, glossy pages with all the pictures and artwork make great collaging material. Honestly, it isn't good for much else. Tries to give an overview of all things vampire. Naturally, given that it covers folklore, history, and pop culture, it only skims the surface of each.
Exploring the history of vampires up to the present, this guide provides all the information necessary to better understand and appreciate historical, social, literary, and cinematographic allusions to vampirism. Readers will learn what vampires are like, how they act, their customs, and their lineage, as well as how to recognize them, prevent a vampire attack, and become one of them. Chilling details about the rituals, potions, and spells of vampirism are included, as are full-color photographs and illustrations throughout the book.
