In one of the first attempts to bring an integral dimension to sociology, Ken Wilber introduces a system of reliable methods by which to make testable judgments of the authenticity of any religious movement. A Sociable God is a concise work based on Wilber's "spectrum of consciousness" theory, which views individual and cultural development as an evolutionary continuum. A Sociable God extends Ken Wilber's work in transpersonal psychology to the sociology of religion. Wilber provides a framework against which the various levels of of social interaction can be assessed. He establishes the realms--and the means to evaluate them--of the various epistomological modes: sensory, intellectual and contemplative. With these concrete methodologies and stategies for hypothesis formation and testing, Wilber then applies his model to the religious issues confronting society today.

The aim of this book is to suggest some contributions that transpersonal psychology might be able to make to the science of sociology, and especially the sociology of religion, by first, sketching out the basics of transpersonal psychology, and second, transposing these basics into the categories and dimensions of modern sociological theory.
