This book is appropriate for the second and third grades because many of the poems use rhymes and alliteration. Also children would probably find it enjoyable because the poems are all about animals. There are questions about animals, a poem made up of just a sound of an animal and also a fill-in poem about birds. There are many variations of poems in this book and illustrations of animals that go a long with it.
Uses in classroom:
-I would have children practice finding alliteration as I read one of the poems.
-I would have children pick an animal, do research and then write a poem with the information they find. Then I would i have them paint a picture of their animals with water colors.
- In some of the poems there are some homonyms so I would have children find those and try to use them in the poem as well. ( )
