Robert (Lynn) Asprin was born in 1946. While he has written some stand alone novels such as Cold Cash War, Tambu, The Bug Wars and also the Duncan and Mallory Illustrated stories, Bob is best known for his series: The Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve; the Phule novels; and, more recently, the Time Scout novels written with Linda Evans. He also edited the groundbreaking Thieves World anthologies with Lynn Abbey. His most recent collaboration is License Invoked written with Jody Lynn Nye. A reread from 1986. Mildly entertaining and enough to keep me interested, but felt like a filler in the series (seventh anthology), involving many of the ongoing characters, but moving the overall plot forward only very incrementally.
Was interested to read Andrew Offutt’s afterword mentioning the upcoming (in 1985) standalone novels of Shadowspawn and Beyond Sanctuary which I have read in the last couple of years. ( )
Offutt's "The Veiled Lady" was fun, Bailey's "Keeping Promises" had good strong female lead, Asprin's "When the Spirit Moves You" ends with his pun as usual, Paxson's "The Color of Magic" is a good tale. A couple of the stories described convoluted political intrigues, more than I was willing to suffer through. ( )
