A look at how individual endeavors can save lives and solve problems, offering compelling examples of both citizen and corporate activism at work in the world today. "Almost everyone--regardless of income, available time, age, and skills--can do something useful for others and, in the process, strengthen the fabric of our shared humanity." Inspiring stories of people and organizations--some famous, as well as many private citizens whom readers will be hearing about for the first time--show that the act of giving takes many forms; that offerings of time, skills, objects, and ideas can be just as important as contributions of money; and that the lives of those who give are changed as well.--From publisher description.… (altro)

Points for being creative about what to do and how to do it. And the stats in the last chapter were astounding!

I wasn't a huge fan of the main character though.

Wait, you say.
This is a nonfiction book about an action. How can it have a main character?

Clinton uses this book to point out his magnanimity, his charity, and his connections. These people are, for the most part, only in the book because they've partnered with the Clinton Foundation, traveled with Hillary, captured the attention of his daughter, or visited the White House. I was starting to tire of the omnipresence of the author, when he asked the relevant question: What if you don't have a friend who's a famous Alabama lawyer or President? (literally mentioned those two roles) And then he swung into an inspiring tale of a cancer survivor's association and finished it with-- when I met with them in blankety-blank year... and it was a bit too much.

Eliminate the word "I," sir, and you'll have stories worth telling. *

In this book Bill Clinton inspires each of us, regardless of income, available time, age and skills, to do what we can to make the world a better place through our gifts of time, skills, things and ideas.

This is a great book to help with having ideas of which groups to donate to match with the causes important to you and also it helps give the reader ideas if you would like to start something of your own. I felt inspired. There really is something we can all do to make our world better. ( )
