this is a great example of a historical fiction, i love the illustrations of the book and it would be an amazing addition to a unit on the revolutionary war.

Describes the life of Patience Wright. How she sculpted wax figures and became famous doing those. Moved to France to continue work, was hired by famous people and then was able to spy for the U.S.

In the mid-1700's when women hardly had the same rights and opportunities as men, Patience lived an adventurous and extraordinary life. She was probably the first women to be an international entrepreneur when she opened her studio in London, as well as New York and Philadelphia. The biography is told in language simple enough for children to understand and appreciate. The paintings gives an antique feel of a time and place from long ago. The end of the book contains a note from the author describing the historical setting, a timeline of Patience's life and colonial history, and a bibliography. ( )
