Summary: Wolves are a mysterious animal but this books provides information about them. It tells what they eat and how much, the different kinds of them, how they live and in what environments, and even their possible colors. It says that wolves are not a very liked animal which should be the other way around because dogs come from them.

Personal Reaction: I love wolves so learning more about them was really interesting. In the book it said that wolves could be dangerous around a family or children but my mother owned one and I was around it until I turned 2 and it was very protective of me. I think it depends on how they are raised. I think children could get a lot out of these informational books that are about something they may not know much about.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Draw their own personal wolf.
2. Tell about their favorite kind of wold and it's characteristics.
3. Make a list of other dogs that looks most like the wolf.

I use this book for my Reading Unit in Nonfiction and Informational Texts. The students focus on pulling main ideas and supporting facts from this book. What I like abut this book, besides the photographs, is that there are no text features, which makes pulling the main idea and supporting facts a little more challenging. I have the students create a pretend table of contents at the end of the story and we come up with possible headings and subheadings for each page. The students really enjoy doing this, and we often have to have a mock court, to see who can convince the class that his heading or title is the best fit. ( )

This book is good for a look into the life of wolves. The students will really like the detail and how the book tells you just about everything you need to know about wolves. ( )

This book is a collaboration of Seymour Simon's studies and experts studies about wolves. We learn different interesting facts and characteristics about wolves. Also, we learn to not stereotype wolves. Because of this stereotype, wolves are beginning to become extinct. We learn ways and methods used to try and preserve the species but learn that a lot of teamwork and effort goes into saving this proud animal. ( )

The book has big closeups of wolves, the pictures go along with the reading and this helps bring these amazing creatures to life. It talks about humans and wolves having relationships together. It talks about them not usually attacking humans but actually liking them. It talks about their intelligence and how the are almost extinct because humans hunt them.

In many ways, wolves are like dogs and lions; yet wolves have a bad reputation.
