This easy to read picture book explains the various changes the Moon goes through as it orbits the Earth. This is a perfect mentor text to use when teaching students about the phases of the moon, depicting each phase of the moon ad explaining it in detail with colorful illustrations. This text is a great mentor text to a science teacher and a science classroom library. ( )

I thought this book was okay. The pictures and words made it a little over whelming to me. I can only imagine what it would be like if a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader read this book. I get the impression that there is just so much information that the author wanted to cram into the book so it is informative, and covers all the bases, but I got so lost in the visual aids that I couldn't comprehend the information. One thing that I did like about the book was the fact that at the end were possible lessons and activities that a child, or group of children can do to learn about moon phases. I think the purpose of this book is to inform students about the phases that the moon goes through each month. Another purpose is to give students an activity to further investigate their interest int he moon. ( )

This book provides a simple and easy to understand facts about moon phases. The illustrations are visually appealing. This book also gives an activity that students can complete to further understand moon phases. ( )

I really found this book to be informational, for young readers and even for someone at my age. This book was packed with information about the moon, but in a way that was interactive with the reader. The author also uses experiments for the readers to do at their homes in order to gain a better understanding about the phases of the moon. The author also gave great instructions for the readers in order to perform the experiments. I loved the visuals that were throughout the book, as well as the information that I read and learned. ( )

There are no awards for this book. This book would be good for kindergartners and first graders since the text is very very basic, but it still has decent information about the moon. This book basically just tells small facts about the moon, like there is no air on the moon so people, animals and plants can't live there. It also informs the reader why you see different parts of the moon at night and it gives you a little activity to do so you understand why certain nights you see a full moon while other nights you only see a sliver of it. This book deals with science and facts about the moon. For kindergartners I would read this book if I do a science/space lesson. I would have the reading part of the classroom very space oriented with pictures of planets and stars and just make it seem all spacey. We would read this book and once we finished we will examine the moon each night afterwords and see the different moon phases. For the first graders I would do the same thing with them, but instead of examining the moon they will pick a fact about the moon and they will write a sentence or two about the moon and draw a picture and we will put it together to make a moon book.
