ehines: Regular guy stumbles into the secret realm. In Neverwhere this secret realm is very much a London one; in the Mysteries it is decidedly an old Celtic one. Also Never where turns into a full-blown fantasy adventure, while the Mysteries stays mostly realistic.
L'idea alla base del libro, seppur non originale, è intrigante come poche (il "sospetto" dell'esistenza del mondo del piccolo popolo e poi la ricerca delle porte di accesso) ma ciò che è venuto fuori è un romanzo insulso e noiso, la trama è quasi inesistente, i personaggi si riducano praticamente al solo protagonista (un investigatore privato... tonto!) di cui la scrittrice ci racconta con centinaia di pagine una insignificantissima vita/indagine quotidiana priva di alcun effettivo interesse. Gli eventi (l'indagine: lui sta cercando una tizia scomparsa) si sviluppano lentamente e anche in modo poco chiaro; una vera noia. Il libro si salva un po' nel finale quando i nodi della vicenda vengono al pettine e l'autrice decide di dare una scossa "seria" alla storia. Romanzo infine mediocre, peccato perché l'autrice scrive bene. ( )
