Froggy Goes to School

I think this would be a good book to read during the beginning of the school year. It shows kids that its okay to be nervous for the first day of school. It also shows that even though you're scared it really isn't that bad. I defiantly had a teacher read my grade school class this book on the first day of school.

This book is about froggy who has a bad dream that do goes to school in his underwear. He was very embarrassed by this. Then his dad comes in the room and turns out it had all just been a dream! Then he goes to school, has a good day, and realizes there are still things he needs to learn like remembering to bring his things home. ( )

I love the Froggy series. First, I like the language of the book because it is a pattern. Every time, Froggy goes somewhere it states “flop flop flop” so the readers know he is hopping like frogs do. I also like the language of the book because whenever a character says Froggy’s name it is written in colorful, large, uppercase letters and drawn out to emphasize how the character is saying it. I also liked this bool it is believable because Froggy is a little nervous to start school for the first time. He is believable because most children are very excited to start going to school, but may be a little nervous at first. Many readers can relate to Froggy. I think this book can be used in a guided reading group because we can predict what is going to happen and discuss how Froggy is feeling. The students will learn new ways to read a book but also have a personal connection to the book. I would love to have a whole collection of Froggy books in my classroom because they are relatable but also fun for the students to read. ( )
