This entire series is a wonderful way to learn history or teach it to adolescents. I find today's generations seem to recall more when they learn through other people (pop songs, celebrity gossip, etc.), so what better way to teach history than through someone else's perspective? Yes, "authentic" diaries would be "better", but would the language really hold the modern student's attention? Did the diary writer know what WOULD be important in the context of history? Probably not. Julienne is a street urchin in the French harbour town of Brest in 1785 who has lost her memory and knows nothing about herself and her past, bar her name and what she sees in her visions that are memories from her past life. She keeps a diary to try and remember and then one day, disguised as a boy, she accidentally stows away on the Boussole that is captained by the famous explorer Captain Laperousse. Will she be discovered? nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
The Diary of Julienne Fulbert, Laperouse's Voyage of Discovery, 1785-1788. Julienne roams the fortress tunnels of Brest, France, cold, hungry and knowing only one thing about herself - her name. But soon she must abandon even that remnant of her identity. She becomes Jules, ship's boy, journeying to Botany Bay and beyond, on a voyage of discovery for the glory of France led by Commander Laperouse. Jules/Julienne see new and strange things on board the 'Boussole', but what she would most like to discover is her own history: who is Julienne Fulbert?
