I love all the facts that this books includes. It talks about important parts of the human body (bones), how they work (function), and how they can be damage. I think this book would be great to teach children about the skeletal system. ( ![]() 612.7 Summary: This is a book about our skeletal system and the purpose and function of the bones. The author does a great job of breaking down the many functions of the bones and illustrating them in a way that draws your attention to the detail of the bones. The author takes an overall approach and then gets more and more detailed as the story continues. Personal Reaction: I enjoyed this book and think it would be a great supplement to a study of the skeletal system. The pictures are very detailed and allow the reader to see clearly what the author is discussing. The author uses an approach that makes the information understandable for your readers and interesting for older readers as well. The author uses many x-ray images and contrasts that with dark backgrounds making the book eye-catching. The author also introduces a large amount of vocabulary in a way that the students will find it easy to remember. Classroom Extension: 1. One activity could be for students to draw images of their own hands and draw in the bones as seen in the illustration from the book then label the bones in the hand. This could be done with other parts as well such as the cranium although it would be more difficult to draw one’s own head. 2. Students could work in pairs and trace full body images of each other on large butcher paper and draw in the bones that are mentioned in the book and label them correctly. This is an excellent reference book to use when teaching a life science lesson on the skeletal system. It contains a diagram of the major bones of the body along with various explanations and functions. This book discusses fascinating facts about the bones that make up our skeletons. It also describes how a bone can break, how a bone can be healed, and how a bone changes as you get older. After describing part of the skeletal system the author gives and activity that involves that particular part of the skeletal system. This book also illustrates the facts with stunning photographs. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
