What an idea to have a cabin on a sled to move to Maine! I enjoyed it, but there are some problems with the treatment of Native Americans and African Americans. Perhaps it is to be expected in a book written in 1934. Just a heads up. ( ) What a wonderful little story about 'the olden days.' That is to say, historical fiction at its most accessible. The characters aren't iconographic representations, but several real individuals. And pleasure is the main purpose; the educational value is subtle and secondary. And what makes Coatsworth special is that she's also a poet. As in [b:The Cat Who Went to Heaven|200362|The Cat Who Went to Heaven|Elizabeth Coatsworth|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1172629048s/200362.jpg|821853] there's a lovely little poem at each chapter break, enhancing but not necessary to the story. This would be a perfect family read-aloud.* I've no idea why Coatsworth's books are hard to find, but they're certainly worth hunting up! *Almost all poetry is best read aloud - these pieces are no exception. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
