The Stupid series have all been challenged. In this book, The Stupids Die, everything they do is backwards. The children are mowing the carpet, and using a sprinkler inside. The whole family showers together while eating breakfast. Every page of this book has the word stupid on it. I can understand why this book has been challenged. As children, we are taught that stupid is not a nice word, and that we should not call other people stupid. While this is a silly book about nonsense things, I would not want my child reading the word stupid and associating it with funny things. ( )

A crazy story about the Stupid family and their troubles when the lights go out in their house!

First of all, the little world presented by Allard and James would make any child want to read this. It is interesting to find what is wrong with each page according to the text and its “matching” illustration. The lesson here could be how obvious wrong and right are from one another. Very entertaining and engaging read. ( )

A hilarious story about a family named the Stupids who seem to complicate and confuse everything that they do. In this story when they fall asleep they think they have died! This is a great story for children to read that is not only educational; it also teaches valuable lessons and gives a sense of humor to reading. ( )

The Stupids die, another piece from the team of James Marshall and Harry Allard, tells how when the Stupids experience a power outage, they think they've died. It just occurred to me, while tagging this book, that it's rather difficult to come up with tags for this book--because nothing really happens. However, life with the Stupids is never dull, and in this visit with the Stupids, Grandfather Stupid reveals that the Stupids reside in Cleveland (but how much trust can we put in Grandpa's bearings?). This Stupids production makes its illustration style more transparent than in other Stupids books--colored pencil and marker, with ink outlines. The grain of the colored pencil is completely obvious here, which I hadn't noticed in other Stupids books. If there's extra cash in the budget that your library's trying to use, then add this to your collection. But if your funds are tapped out, well, then, you're not missing anything major. ( )
