This fictional story is set during The Great Depression and follows the career of Carl (Carlos) Webster, a crack shot, well respected, and mannerful lawman who killed his first criminal at the ripe age of fifteen.

This feels like "Justified" set in the roaring 20s. The characters are flat, but fun. ( )

A great story with some facts about the 1930s thrown in that I didn't know. Seemed to drag toward the end, but maybe I was just axious to get finished and head to the next Elmore Leonard book...LOL! ( )

Flat as the area of the country it's set in (Oklahoma & Kansas). Still, I'm done now. This story may have been the wrong one to pickup for a first foray into Leonard's territory, so I'm going to try something else next. ( )
