All the Charlie and Lola books are pretty cute, and have a nice sibling relationship in them. But this one is particularly charming for book-lovers and those whose kids obsess over things. I do especially love Lola's helpless laughter when she recalls the funny parts of her favorite book. ( )

This is a cute story about Lola who doesn't believe that her favorite book could ever be replaced. When she goes to the library to find out that someone else has the book, her brother encourages her to find another one. When Lola finds a new book that she enjoys she says that she has found her new favorite book. I think this shows young readers that there are many books out there that they will enjoy. ( )

Summary: But Excuse Me That is My Book is a part of the Charlie & Lola series and is about a little girl named Lola who wants to go to the library with her brother Charlie to get her favorite book, Beetles, Bugs, and Butterflies. However, when they get to the library, Lola discovers that another child has taken out her book. Charlie tries to convince Lola to try a new book, Cheetahs and Chimpanzees, and after much frustration and refusal, Lola sits down to read it and then decides that THIS book is the very best one.

Personal Connection: I love the Charlie & Lola series! All of the children's dialogue, facial expressions, and actions are so perfectly displayed. I also love how Lola shares her love of books, and how patient her older brother Charlie is with her.

Application to Teaching: I would use this book to teach about book choice- I love how Charlie goes through different types of books to find the book that is the right fit for Lola. The illustrations could also be used to teach about layering, and multimodal image and text use. ( )

Lola only wants to read one book and it is gone from the library. It is up to her older brother Charlie to find her a new book to read, but it won't be easy. A relatable book about trying new things for children who always want to read the same thing. Great mixed media art that incorporates the text into it. ( )

I think that a lot of young children can relate to this book in the sense that they get fixated on the same book and only want that book. The story itself is adorable with Charlie, the older wiser brother, trying to help his little sister, Lola pick a different book from the library. The illustrations are very different from what I am used to. It appears to be a mix of fabric collage within the illustrations along with what look like real pictures. It made the text difficult for me and I was a bit annoyed with constantly reading, "Lola says," or "Charlie says". My biggest pet peeve in stories is when the words "said", or "says" are repeated over and over again. ( )
