BookshelfMonstrosity: If you like dramatic and suspenseful legal thrillers in which an attorney must prove the obvious untrue, you may like The Confession and Moment of Truth. Additionally, the difficulty of manipulating opinion plays into both stories.

Loved the humor and totally natural interactions with people. Got why Jack wanted to admit to the murder to save his daughter but why before talking to her. The detectives added to the fun although by the end I questioned how realistic they were. Mary was funny the way she kept jumping to conclusions without thinking it through. Laughed at her thoughts about her Catholic upbringing affecting her. Also her appreciation for her parents and their ways. Did not get her falling in love attitude. The DA Davis was a jerk with his goal to get ahead most important. The daughter eventually got some personality. Want to go back and read series from beginning. ( )

Has a father's love for his daughter unwittingly led his actions to create a flawless guilty verdict?

As the legal case proceeds through the justice system will a confession stop investigation for the truth?
“The stoops were the focus of the homes, like the smile of each place; there was marble, concrete, and flagstone, a classy touch.”

“North Philly. Torresdale.”
In the midst of the serious issues this case presents from outlooks of the prosecution and defense there are some wonderful Philly references that add their own touch of class to the storyline. For this reader there were also many reminisces from sitting on the stoop of my grandparents' row house and talking with neighbors across the porches to remembering a cousin's years at Girard. Then the heartfelt smile that broke out as I read North Philly. Torresdale since independently walking from Glenloch Street via Robbins Street to the corner store on Torresdale Avenue and then back to Glenloch via Torresdale Avenue and Levick Street stretched the time and delights of being on my own. This was the second time I read this book, and I am surprised that I read it 2x. It wasn't until I was 75% complete that I realized that I had read it before. It wasn't really memorable to me, and I didn't think it was that exciting or necessarily believable.

Early in the series and it is nice to see an imperfect lawyer. A real page turner that kept you on your toes until the end. ( )

Why would anyone incriminate themselves and confess to a murder they didn’t commit? Jack Newlin is an attorney himself from a very prestigious Philadelphia law firm. He comes home to a horrific scene. Someone has murdered his wife, Honor, and he is afraid he knows who it may have been. He even hires an attorney he believes is inexperienced to try to ensure his conviction. Mary DiNunzio, of the law firm Rosato & Associates, however, is much smarter than he anticipates. Mary is not the only person who begins to suspect his confession is false and they all seem to know who he is trying to protect.

Jack’s daughter, Paige, is 16 and a model. Honor was her manager. Jack was basically absent from the home as he and Honor did not get along. But with the way Honor treated Paige, he should have been there. He was trying to right that wrong when Honor was murdered.

This is the 5th book in the Rosato & Associates series. I normally like the protagonist, Mary DiNunzio, and her very Italian family. In this story, she had an attraction to Jack Newlin that I just couldn’t truly comprehend. Many of her statements to the police were purely guesswork on her part. I did enjoy the camaraderie between Mary and Lou who works for Rosato & Associates as an investigator. I rated this 3 out of 5.
