I started to listen to the Cruise of the Dazzler as an audio book in 1985 but for reasons I can't remember I wasn't able to finish it, either had to return to the library or perhaps one of the cassette tapes was defective. It is now available as a free Kindle edition. The shortish book, a little long for a novela but short for a novel. is about a boy who runs away from home and joins the crew of what turns out to be an San Francisco Bay oyster pirate. The captain engages in other kinds of piracy along with stealing oysters from comercial oyster beds in the bay. The runaway Joe finds that he and another boy, known only as the Frisco Kid, make up the whole crew. This story must be somewhat autobiographical since Jack London was an oyster pirate on San Francisco Bay in his youth. Both boys I think represent the author.
