"Trigger point therapy is one of the fastest-growing and most effective pain therapies in the world. Medical doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and massage therapists are all beginning to use this technique to relieve patients' formerly undiagnosable muscle and joint pain, both conditions that studies have shown to be the cause of nearly 25 percent of all doctor visits. This book addresses the problem of myofascial trigger points--tiny contraction knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. Restricted circulation and lack of oxygen in these points cause referred pain. Massage of the trigger is the safest, most natural, and most effective form of pain therapy. Trigger points create pain throughout the body in predictable patterns characteristic to each muscle, producing discomfort ranging from mild to severe. Trigger point massage increases circulation and oxygenation in the area and often produces instant relief. The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook, Third Edition, has made a huge impact among health professionals and the public alike, becoming an overnight classic in the field of pain relief. This edition includes a new chapter by the now deceased author, Clair Davies' daughter, Amber Davies, who is passionate about continuing her father's legacy. The new edition also includes postural assessments and muscle tests, an illustrated index of symptoms, and clinical technique drawings and descriptions to assist both practitioners and regular readers in assessing and treating trigger points. If you have ever suffered from, or have treated someone who suffers from myofascial trigger point pain, this is a must-have book"-- "This new edition of the bestselling Trigger Point Therapy Workbook outlines user-friendly and updated methods of self-massage to help relieve pain. The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief di Clair Davies

Prescriptive Stretching di Kristian Berg (pammab)
pammab: Clair Davies' book offers pain relief through self-massage of often highly unexpected places (like a spot between navel and hip to relief spinal back pain), with diagrams of referred pain and muscles. Kristian Berg's book is focused specifically on stretching with extremely clear diagrams. I'd recommend starting acute self-treatment with Davies, and then stabilizing with Berg.… (altro)

Clair Davies' book offers pain relief through self-massage of often highly unexpected places, like relieving spinal back pain through massaging a spot on the belly between navel and hip. Diagrams of referred pain make it straightforward to find the most relevant sections to you, and the introductions include strong discussions of both why and how to perform trigger point massage. It clearly distinguishes when to start at home and when to see a doctor with heuristics that make sense, like time limits and checklists to distinguish muscular vs. organ-based pain (organ-based is impossible to treat at home and dangerous to wait on). It calls out common false diagnoses by doctors for particular referred pain patterns from tight muscles. It includes direct, sensible, and useful safety & access instructions for the points it recommends. It's an owner's manual for your body.

This book is a revelation. It works. Literally everyone should have access to a copy. I can't rave enough at how profound this book is. It is head and shoulders above everything else in the self-treatment space. ( )

I heard of this book many years ago, but somehow never got around to reading it until now. That was a mistake. This is a fantastic guide to relieving the aches and pains that are the common lot of all humanity. The author recommends using a different style of treatment than the traditional "press and hold" that I learned years ago -- using deep, short strokes instead. I've been trying this and I do think it may be an improvement. If so, then the book is worth it just for that. That's not including the extensive illustrations covering the entire body, demonstrating the most likely trigger points and offering tips on treating them.

Recommended to anyone with a body that has any aches and pains, ever. ( )
