The Zofingia Club was a discussion group to which C.G. Jung belonged as a medical student: in 1897 he became Chairman, and gave five lectures. These have survived and are published here in a supplementary volume to the Collected Works. The lectures are of great interest to anyone concerned with Jung's early ideas, as a young medical student from a strongly Swiss Protestant background. The Lectures are: The Border Zones of Exact Science (November 1896); Some Thoughts on Psychology (May 1897); An Inaugural Address on Becoming Chairman of the Zofingia Club; Thoughts on the Nature and Value of Speculative Inquiry (Summer 1898); and Thoughts on the Interpretation of Christianity with Reference to the Theory of Albrecht Ritschl (January 1899). > PSYCHOLOGIE ET PHILOSOPHIE, Conférences Zofingia (1896-1899), de C.G.Jung. — Durant ses années d’études, et comme c’était alors l’habitude dans les universités de tradition germanique : Carl Gustav Jung appartenait à un cercle étudiant où le débat scientifique, affranchi des conventions académiques et sociales, était aussi le lieu d’expression de convictions fortes.
Les "lectures" que Jung prononça devant les étudiants bernois et berlinois de la société Zofinga ont donc peu de choses à voir avec des "conférences” au sens classique du terme. Dans ces éclats de jeunesse toutefois gisent les racines profondes d’une pensée et d’une oeuvre. On y saisit, « à l’état naissant », l’ensemble des réflexions qui l’éloigneront par la suite de Freud, en particulier son rapport à l’épistémologie kantienne et à Nietzsche dont il réévalue l’importance philosophique. On y découvre également sa perception du néoplatonisme et du Romantisme allemand qui marqueront fortement ses travaux. Ces lectures permettent ainsi d’entrer au coeur d’une réflexion vivante qui ne cessera jamais de se remettre en cause tout en demeurant fidèle à ses premières intuitions. Ed.
