This book mixes history (and some of it quite horrible), with funny illustrations and jokes that are aimed at students. I enjoyed the quizzes, the facts, the parts about the Saxons, and the Viking culture. The illustrations gave me plenty of chuckles, especially the one for the story where Edmund threw his spear at Edric. I don't know if I would have called what happened at baby Ethelred's christening an evil sign, but I could imagine it becoming a viral video on Youtube if it happened today. Yes, I think students would enjoy this book. This middle-aged adult enjoyed it, too. (
