I loved the first book and was really pleased to hear there was a second one. I liked this story. The characters are always so funny and quirky which makes them appealing. Coyote is such a kind person; it is easy to read about her adventures and interactions with people. My favorite part was the friendships her and her dad make on their journeys. I was put off that the story takes place during Covid. Numerous references to "masking up" and sanitizer applications. Business and restaurants closed, etc. I really don't want to read about that. Overall, though, it was great to revisit with Coyote and her father. I received a complimentary e-book from the publisher in exchange for a review. ( ) A lost book leads a girl on a journey to finding closure after the tragic death of her mother and two sisters. Coyote Sunrise lived on a school bus named Yager prior to settling down in a home with her father. She enrolls in school but doesn't fit in with the majority of other children. Despite this challenge, Coyote makes a friend with Audrey. Coyote finds a box in the school bus. She learns that the box holds her moms ashes who passed away due to a car accident. Her dad mentions a book that stated where her mom would like to have her ashes scattered. After searching for the book, Coyote realizes she may have accidentally given it away to a thrift shop. Coyote comes up with a plan to take her dad on a journey to find the lost book. Along the way, they make friends who join them on the journey. Coyote eventually comes to terms with her loss. This is a charming book about family and creating friendships. Coyote is conflicted with telling her dad the truth about the lost book. Gemeinhart creates emotionally challenged characters of Coyote and Rodeo as they both find acceptance in honoring her mothers wishes. An excellent read. Coyote discovers that her dad Rodeo hid her mother's ashes in the school bus they road-tripped in the past 5 years. Rodeo says that Mom wrote down where she wanted her ashes to be scattered in the pages of a favorite book. Coyote realizes that she gave that book away when they were on the road. As schools close down due to covid, Coyote proposes hitting the road again but doesn't admit to Rodeo why they need to do this or that she lost the book and needs to find it. As Gemeinhart does, he plies the reader's waterworks. The distracting plot device of covid as inspiration to hit the road wasn't totally plausible to me. Those early weeks were scary and unknown. I doubt Salvador's mother would have let him go on the road trip that readily, or that the bowling alley was open for business, or that the group seemed so insulated from covid headlines. Or that they had access to face masks when there was a major shortage. I can't remember if the earlier "The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise" mentioned what year it was, but really, covid did not have to be part of this sequel. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
