A con woman finds herself in a tricky spot and the plot flashes back & forth with other identities and jobs she's taken over the years. A smart protagonist, tons of surprises, and kept me interested the whole time. It was fun to read and just what I wanted. I cared what happened to Lucca and Ryan. Thrillers often keep me interested in the plot, but not the characters, so I appreciated that. ( ) This book was exactly what I needed: a fast-paced thrill-ride I could not put down! With its brisk pace and breezy but clever writing style, the novel never lost momentum. Ashley Elston did a brilliant job with the story's structure, smartly hiding secrets in plain sight until just the right moment, ensuring the tension and conflict kept ratcheting up. I found myself not only rooting for the main character, who is genuinely smart and likeable, but also trying to guess how things would pan out. (I thought I had it, but I was wrong.) Evie is a true gem of a heroine: intelligent and compelling. I was cheering for her right from the outset. Her smart decisions and the complex layers of her personality kept me glued to the pages. The narrative is as original and engaging as any top-tier thriller I've ever read. I'd compare it to "Gone Girl," another favorite of mine, as both books share sharp twists and clever writing. (However, Evie is much more likeable than either of the protagonists in "Gone Girl.") While some moments required me to heavily suspend my disbelief—particularly the almost magical timing of some genius IT solutions—those didn’t detract from the story. Instead, they added an element of fun to the unfolding drama, reminding me to just enjoy the ride. I was thoroughly impressed with my first book by Ashley Elston, and I can't wait to see what she does next in this genre.
It was difficult to determine who was deceiving whom at points in this clever read. The historical chapters completed the picture by providing details about Evie's past identities and missions. Though it's challenging to discuss this without giving away any plot details, I would still advise it. Best publishing platform MenzioniElenchi di rilievo
"Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could want: a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist. The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she's given a name and location by her mysterious boss Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job. Evie isn't privy to Mr. Smith's real identity, but she knows this job will be different. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she's starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can't make any mistakes--especially after what happened last time. Because the one thing she's worked her entire life to keep clean, the one identity she could always go back to-her real identity-just walked right into this town. Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there's still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn't be higher--but then, Evie has always liked a challenge.."-- Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
