Huckle wants to help Mother Cat, so he runs to the grocery store. But he’s forgotten the list! Can Lowly Worm help him get the right things for Mother Cat?

Huckle buys a cuckoo-clock for Mother’s Day but he rides his bike too fast [and his bell is broken] and crashes into Postman Pig. Letters go flying and Officer Murphy discovers that the clock is broken. He tells Huckle he was going too fast [and he needs to fix his bicycle bell]. Oh, no! Can Mr. Fixit fix the clock in time for Mother’s Day?

Are Huckle and Lowly Worm really best friends? Then why is Lowly sitting with Willy Rabbit?

Delightful illustrations, easy text for beginning readers. Classic Richard Scarry.

Highly recommended. ( )

Little Kid Reaction: My kids loved the stories in this book. Even my 2-year old enjoyed it, although, I had to paraphrase near the end due to dwindling attention span issues! My 6-year-old is to the point where he can read this to his brothers, and my 4 year old loves to listen to it. Sometimes we read 1 story, sometimes 2, and sometimes all 3. There are 10-15 words per page, and they are simple and somewhat repetitive, with some longer words like "wonderful," "presents," and "whispered."

Big Kid Reaction: I liked this book because it was interesting and challenging without being too challenging. It also touched on themes of friendship and citizenship. The pictures are classic Richard Scarry, which makes them fun and action-packed.

The Best Mistake Ever is a story about Huckle cat and his mother. Mother Cat wanted to clean the house so she sent Huckle cat to the store because he was so anxious to help but he did everything wrong in the house and the only way for Mother cat to get the house clean was to get rid of him. She sent him to the store with a list to get groceries. Huckle cat forgot the list and could not remember what his mother needed so his friend worm decided to help him shop. They shopped for everything good enough to have a party. When they got back to the house Mother cat told Huckle those are all party foods and not what she wanted but just then Aunty Rose and her daughter came to the house and Huckles mistake turned out for the better. Mother Cat was no longer mad at him.

This book is some of the adventures of Huckle and Worm. They make mistakes will all the errands they are supposed to run. Huckle goes to the grocery store but then forgets the grocery list he was given. One of the stories involves a cuckoo-cuckoo clock. But in the end all their mistakes work out and everyone is happy.
