I didn’t enjoy this book at all. While I could tell the plot was well developed, the characters were extremely shallow and they focused on all the unimportant things in life. It was full of lies, deception, and marital infidelity. I will not read this author again.

Thank you to LibraryThing, the publisher and the author.

I've always enjoyed this author's books and they are always set in the hoity toity town of Palm Beach with rich people. A lot of name dropping of clothing brands of course and how Lucinda (the matriarch) wanted the Barrow girls to act and dress. Mirabelle, Caroline, and Raleigh are very close and then the worst happens and then it gets out of control with both the company that bears their name run by Lucinda. Caroline and Travis, Mirabelle and Samuel also. Raleigh and Andrew are artists and have nothing to do with the company.

It all comes out in the end of what happened on the day the tragedy with Samuel happens and with the sisters. ( )

The storyline for the book was fine, but reading it was rough for me. There didn't seem to be smooth transitions, it was too jumpy or unnatural to settle into and easily follow. I also wasn't always sure who we were talking about or what perspective it was from without slowing down or going back to reread some. And there felt like a lot of fashion/brand/designer specific descriptions, which personally was distracting because I am quite unfamiliar with them and it felt tedious. It also seemed that people's names were used at gatherings as if we were to know who they were, but were often left in the dark, which made it hard to care about the fact that they were in attendance or why. None of the sisters (who are the main characters) were really confident in who they were or in any of their relationships. So those things all added up to an unenjoyable read for me.
I read an advance copy, so I hope that some of these things get smoothed out for others' reading experiences. ( )

In the heartwarming yet tumultuous tale, we delve into the lives of the three remarkable sisters, each weaving her unique thread into the intricate tapestry of a family's journey from modest beginnings to the opulent shores of Palm Beach.

Maribelle's world is shattered as her husband, Samuel, meets an untimely demise aboard his beloved boat. This sudden loss becomes a catalyst for unraveling long-guarded truths, revealing a staggering embezzlement of 7 million dollars from the family enterprise. As the ashes settle, the family is left grappling with the legacy of a man they thought they knew.
The threads of destiny are tightly woven around the sisters, each narrating her chapter with an individual voice, laying bare their innermost desires and struggles. Amid the glamour and excess of their newfound life on the Palm Beach coast, the sisters confront the disparities between their public facades and private aspirations.

At the heart of this story is a matriarch, a controlling force with a laser focus on her societal standing. Her relentless pursuit of prestige and power, however, threatens to fracture the bonds between mother and daughters, as well as the sisters' relationships with their respective husbands.

As the plot unfolds, layers of intrigue, betrayal, and redemption are peeled away, offering a riveting glimpse into the dynamics of high society. Amid the turmoil, the sisters are forced to confront their own motivations, forging new paths as they navigate the treacherous terrain of wealth and influence. ( )

I really liked the idea of this book, a wealthy trio of sisters and a mysterious death. I wanted to like the sisters but they weren't very likable. I felt sorry for all of them. Maribelle, the oldest sister, has the perfect husband. CFO of her father's business, charitable, charismatic, handsome, and charming. However, Samuel has been cheating on Maribelle. Apparently he has cheated for their whole marriage but always with different women. This last affair seems to be different. Caroline, the middle sister, is married to Travis, Samuel's best friend. She is in charge of marketing for the family business. She has two daughters and by all appearances the perfect life. Raleigh, the youngest sister, 10 years behind Maribelle. She is flighty and emotional. Her husband Alex is the outsider of the Barrows husbands. And she has been keeping a secret. Samuel's death sparks some concern with money missing from Barrows. And so Maribelle must deal with his death, his stealing, and figure out who was his last mistress. They women just seem so shallow and try to hard for their mother's approval. Lucinda is all about appearances. She pits the girls against each other to get what she wants. I guess the ending worked out okay as Maribelle sort of stands up for herself and goes out on her own. Thank you to LibraryThing and Beaufort Book for the ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own. ( )
