Welcome to our new recap of Vol 2 of Fushigi Yugi in which Yui & Miaka are just.. something, poor Keisuke is put upon and everyone else in the cast would really like to know what could possibly kill Miaka's appetite.

When we last left our erstwhile Priestess had fainted bc Tama baby was unbelievably idiotic in his rejection of her...or maybe the emotional & physical turmoil she's been in. Jury is out on what was the real issue.

We meet Tai-yi Jun (and the Lai Lai) and learn that Nuriko is the smartest of the bunch. Well for right now. And I rescind my statement that FY deals with her cross dressing gay life - some is handled well, but when ya got the Lai Lai (which are an extension of Tai-yi Jun) saying they'll "fix-heal" her perversion and Tama baby calling her queer...I just don't know.

Side note...so Nuriko is a man, who prefers dressing like a woman, states she has a soul of a woman and is hot to trot with Hotohori. So in most ways wants to live as a woman (at some point she says if she lived as a man she'd be in love with Miaka though) Is she transgender? Or is she just a cross dresser and gay? She can't physically change her gender but to the extent she can, Nuriko changes her gender identity and self-identifies as a woman.

These are the thoughts I had while reading volume 2 XD Yui is missing, Miaka is having problems with Tamahome and needs to save the world (or at least Hong-nan) from Qudong...but who cares I want to label Nuriko properly please. ( )

Y'all can miss me with the jokes at Nuriko's expense. Like, wow so gross. That's why I bumped it down from a 3 star to a 2 star rating. I know this is one of Watase's earliest works, but that doesn't excuse anything on her behalf. ( )
